HRH Opens New Peterhead Fish Market
The newly refurbished North Bay Market at Peterhead was opened today at an official ceremony attended by HRH The Prince of Wales, known as The Duke of Rothesay when in Scotland.
The new state-of-the-art market includes the latest refrigeration technology and has doubled in size to accommodate the greater quantities of stocks being landed at the port. The market now has a capacity of 10,000 boxes of fish at any one time and in the first nine weeks of operation, over 250,000 boxes of fish were sold.
Peterhead is one of the largest fishing ports in Europe and in addition serves oil and gas, commercial and leisure vessels. Refurbishment of the fish market is part of an overall £51 million harbour redevelopment plan.
